A Million Problems But Porn Ain't One

A Million Problems But Porn Ain't One

”Porn censorship is a slippery slope”-Photo Courtesy of Hustler

There seems to be an all out onslaught on hardcore porn nowadays. It seems like quite a few people want to hang all of our social ills on this type of entertainment. The somehow sites like Hustler are eroding our moral standards and turning us into animals. To which I have just one thing to say: Bullshit!!

I know that it isn't exactly new that porn is being blamed for everything from food allergies to violent crimes against women. That has happened since porn was invented. I am sure that even back in Roman times, there were groups opposed to pornographic drawings that were placed in public areas and in temples.

I suppose that it's easy to label hardcore porn as the bad guy. It's something that isn't as prominent in popular culture and many Americans still have a puritanical view of sex. So it's quite natural that people would funnel all of their fear into demonizing porn. I understand the mechanics of this tactic pretty well.

However, I think that it is completely wrong to do so. I have been checking out hardcore porn like what Hustler offers all of my life. Way before the internet when people still had to get their porn from those glossy magazines. So it's pretty safe to say that I have consumed quite a bit of porn over the years. I have seen thousands upon thousands of movies and have seen more pornographic pictures than you would even believe. And what was the effect of all of this porn? It absolutely had no effect on me whatsoever.

I haven't turned into a misogynistic asshole or a homicidal maniac. I haven't become addicted to sex or started abusing women—either physically or emotionally, and I haven't had my sexual expectations of sex changed in any way at all (meaning that I don't expect women to have sex with me like a porn star). I just enjoy it and go on my way. That is all there is too it.

Now, I am sure that if you are reading this article, then you probably aren't calling for hardcore porn to be banned. I normally wouldn't make assumptions, but in this case I think I can assume that your feelings on porn are probably pretty close to mine. However, there are a sub-section of society that does want porn to be banned. An act that is not only physically impossible, but is really a bad idea.

It's a bad idea to ban porn because one, it's not the cause of our social ills and two, censorship is never the answer. Even if there was something harmful about porn—which there isn't—then banning it wouldn't be the answer. We can't protect people from themselves. History has shown that doesn't work.

That's all I wanted to say to you today. If you enjoy hardcore porn, then stand up and don't let people take away your right to view it. Go out there and enjoy sites such as Pix And Video and don't let go. I know I'm not. If they want my porn, then they are going to have to pry it from my cold, dead hands.
